Long Time Coming is the first book I’ve ever read by Robert Goddard, who appears to be best known for Into the Blue.

For more than 30 years, Stephen Swan’s uncle, Eldritch Swan, has been wasting away in an Irish prison. When he’s released in 1976, Eldritch tells Stephen that he never committed the crime for which he was imprisoned. He goes into the full story, which begins during WWII and leads up to his imprisonment, which involves the disappearance of art by Picasso.

Long Time Coming

Eldritch, Stephen, and their new friend Rachel Banner find themselves close to being murdered as they help Eldritch resolve the years-old crime for which he was imprisoned.

It took me a few weeks to get through the first few chapters of Long Time Coming, but after that I was hooked. This story is full of great plot twists.

Long Time Coming is told across two timelines: the Eldritch timeline post-WWII and the Stephen timeline in present day 1976. Its mystery highly complex and fascinating. I enjoyed it, but maybe not enough to track down and read other books by this author.
