The Ghost and the Haunted Mansion is the 5th book in the Haunted Bookshop mystery series by Alice Kimberly. She also writes as Cleo Coyle, the author of the Coffeehouse mystery series.

In this one, Penelope’s friend Seymour hires paranormal specialists to exorcise the ghost of private investigator Jack Shepard so he can leave their quaint little town of Quindicott. Seymour also becomes the #1 suspect when an old woman is found murdered in her mansion, and ends up inheriting both her ancient book collection and the mansion.

Next, Jack helps Penelope solve the mystery and identity of the real murderer who left the old lady for dead. As usual, Jack visits Penelope in her dreams and takes her back in time to the 1940s, where she helps him solve a crime linked to the present-day crime.

This series is always incredibly fun. I love Jack’s cool-cat 1940s lingo and the ever-present sexual tension mounting between him and Penelope. I’m sure the next books in the series are going to be great!

Haha! Alice Kimberly/Cleo Coyle's hilarious facebook response to my review:

Sarah Ann – LOVE the review. Thank you! Wait. Jack's in my ear. What's that, Jack? He's telling me to type: "You're a doll, baby. And as for that next case of mine, don't get your panties in a twist. It's comin'." (Sarah Ann — My apologies for Jack's turn of phrase. As far as I know, your panties have nothing to do with my writing schedule.)
