The Devil’s Teardrop is a standalone thriller from Jeffery Deaver, who writes the Lincoln Rhyme (The Bone Collector) series.
This book takes place on New Year’s Eve in 1999. Parker Kincaid, a forensic documents expert, teams up with FBI Agent Margaret Lukas to capture a murderer known as the “Digger.”
The Digger has attacked a group of innocent people at the metro station in Washington, D.C. and left behind a handwritten ransom note. Kincaid’s job is to analyze the note and find out who the Digger’s going to target next.
The Devil’s Teardrop isn’t as good as other books by this author. It’s slow-paced and a bit boring, to be honest. It feels predictable and formulaic, and there’s even a cheesy and unnecessary love story thrown in. Deaver should stick to suspense and leave the romance to Nora Roberts already.
My advice? Just skip this one. It’s not part of a series and you could easily do without it. Try Lee Child or Linwood Barclay instead.
Other books by Jeffery Deaver include:
- The Bodies Left Behind (2008)
- Edge (2010)
- The October List (2013)
