Gone, But Not Forgotten is one of the earliest crime thrillers by Phillip Margolin. It’s about a womanizing serial killer who picks up where he left off after a decade of no action.
A serial killer is on the loose in Portland, Oregon. All his victims are upper-class women married to successful, wealthy businessmen, and each one is found with a black rose and a cryptic note.
This particular novel was interesting because the identity of the serial killer is revealed early on. But we’re left trying to figure out why and how the killer is taking these women, and why he hasn’t been caught yet.
There are lots of intriguing characters in Gone, But Not Forgotten, including a criminal defense lawyer and a rogue-like cop—both of whom are women (and you’ll see why that’s relevant).
The defense lawyer is representing the killer, and the cop is determined to catch the killer in action this time around. The conclusion of this book is superb. Gone, But Not Forgotten is a quick, engaging read, and a wonderful way to spend a relaxing day. This book was even made into a 2005 movie featuring Lou Diamond Phillips and Brooke Shields, do you believe it?
Other books by Phillip Margolin include:
- Woman with a Gun (2014)
- An Insignificant Case (2024)
- False Witness (2025)
