The Seven-Year Bitch is the 5th book by Jennifer Belle, who is a super hilarious author. I fell in love with her after reading High Maintenance, which came out in 2001. It was the first time a book ever made me laugh out loud.
The Seven-Year Bitch is a story about the life of 30-something Isolde (Izzy) Brilliant. She recently had a baby and is trying to juggle her career, marriage, and motherhood without losing her identity in the process. That’s basically the gist, but it’s an incredibly fun story.
This book has lots of genuine LOL moments, and is wildly original and random. For instance, Izzy has a sexual obsession with the Grim Reaper (what?!) and she likes to rant and rave about how sissy and babyish her husband Russell is. She also points out how annoying it is when rich people say things like “my treat” when picking up the tab at restaurants, even though they always planned on paying in the first place.
Another reason I love The Seven-Year Bitch is because Belle stresses the fact that not all women lose their identities and sexual appetites after they become wives and moms. That’s just silly.
Other great books by Jennifer Belle include:
- High Maintenance (2001)
- Little Stalker (2007)
- Swanna in Love (2024)
What did you think about this book? Have you read anything else by Jennifer Belle?
