Executive Privilege

Executive Privilege is the 1st book in the Dana Cutler P.I. series by Phillip Margolin.

I’m not a big fan of legal thrillers, but Phillip Margolin writes good ones. I got hooked on him when I read Sleeping Beauty (2004) which, despite its many negative reviews, was incredibly suspenseful and unpredictable.

In Executive Privilege, very young women are winding up dead after having sex with the POTUS. Dana Cutler, a tough, no-nonsense private investigator actually witnesses the president meeting with one of these women. After the young lady is murdered, Dana goes on the lam to avoid being murdered herself.

Meanwhile, goody two-shoes Brad Miller, a junior lawyer associate, thinks the president and his men are framing an inmate on Death Row for the murder of another young woman secretly involved with the president. Dana and Brad team up to figure out what’s going on, and who’s behind all this mayhem.

Phillip Margolin has a knack for creating highly likeable characters. This mystery in Executive Privilege is easy to solve, but its plot is fast-paced, which makes for fun reading. It’s the perfect blend of action and suspense.
