Steamed is the 1st book in the Gourmet Girl series by mom and daughter team Susan Conant and Jessica Conant-Park. Susan Conant writes the Dog Lover’s mystery series.
Chloe Carter is studying to become a social worker, but her real passion lies in the culinary arts. She also wants a boyfriend, so she ventures into online dating hoping to meet that special someone.

Chloe agrees to go on a blind date with someone she met online, and he’s super boring. It turns into the worst blind date ever when she literally stumbles upon him in the restaurant’s bathroom.
While attending this dude’s funeral, Chloe meets Josh—a sexy, successful chef. She falls for him hard, but the problem is, he’s the murder suspect. Now, it’s up to Chloe to save her culinary hottie from being thrown behind bars. So the cute, perky, red-headed “queen of disaster” becomes an amateur sleuth to figure out whodunnit.
I like how Steamed is part cozy mystery, part chick-lit. It’s hilarious and entertaining, and Chloe is written to be remarkably normal and relatable.
Warning: reading this book will make you hungry. Make sure you have snacks on hand. As a bonus, there are recipes at the back of the book for the meals featured in this book. Fun!
The next few books that come after Steamed in this series are:
- #2 – Simmer Down (2007)
- #3 – Turn Up the Heat (2008)
- #4 – Fed Up (2009)
