Ruff Way to Go is the 2nd book in the Allie Babcock series by Leslie O’Kane, who also writes the Ghost Mom mystery series.
In this one, a couple who are getting divorced hires Allie to help them determine who should truly get to keep the dog. Meanwhile, another neighborhood couple needs help with a foster dog and her puppies. When one of the women dies, it’s up to Allie to figure out whodunnit so she can clear her name and identify the real killer.
Ruff Way to Go starts out super fun, but the story is a bit too far-fetched and cheesy. I know these are common traits in cozy mysteries, but a few things were too silly. For instance, I thought it was strange that Allie’s neighbors would hire her for their divorce proceedings if they weren’t too crazy about her in the first place.
I also found it silly how everyone in the neighborhood becomes obsessed about keeping their dogs safe after someone is murdered. It’s not like anyone was going after dogs.
Overall, Ruff Way to Go is okay, but easily forgettable.
I’ve also reviewed Give the Dog a Bone for this website. The next books in the Allie Babcock series are:
- #3 – Give the Dog a Bone (2002)
- #4 – Woof at the Door (2014)
- #5 – Of Birds and Beagles (2015)
- #6 – Dog Drama (2017)
