This is Not a Test

This is Not a Test is the 4th book by novelist Courtney Summers.

In the near future, Sloane Price is ready to die. Her mom already died, her older sister Lily abandoned her, and her father is an abusive, violent monster.

Sloane is nearly relieved when a zombie apocalypse threatens to wipe out the rest of the humans in her town. Yet, she’s compelled to flee for safety. Sloane spends the next several weeks locked inside her high school with five other students hiding from zombies. She soon realizes she has lots of reasons to fight for survival.

I was skeptical of This Is Not a Test at first because it’s about zombies, which is getting kind of old, but this novel completely blew me away. It’s fast-paced and very engaging. Once I started reading, I stayed up all night to read it and finished it the next morning.

This Is Not a Test is written in first person from Sloane’s point of view and broken up into short-enough sections and chapters to hold your interest. Sloane isn’t as emo and pathetic as I expected her to be, but quite intelligent. She’s just broken because of her background.

This book isn’t at all predictable, and its ending is satisfying after a very action-packed experience.

Great review! I am wary of zombie books too, but this one sounds good. I am sick of seeing the zombie books everywhere I look, especially the classics that have phrases and names replaced with zombie incidents and names.
