Latter-Day of the Dead—I don’t remember how this book came to be in my possession, but I do like horror, and I like zombies, too.
On a calm night, a retarded man named Benjamin crosses the Utah border into Arizona to visit a strip club. Benjamin is from an isolated, polygamist, Mormon compound, so visiting the strip club is forbidden. But funky teeth and all, Benjamin is determined to live on the edge and see what boobies are all about.

When Benjamin goes to the champagne room, he gets infected by a cracked-out zombie stripper. After his attack, he manages to drive himself all the way back to his compound without a very important body part. This all takes place in the prologue.
Benjamin arrives back at the Mormon compound where he is treated by Brother Elias, the compound’s doctor and unsuspecting hero.
Unfortunately, it’s too late to save Benjamin, who may already have infected some of his Brothers and Sisters on the compound. A major zombie outbreak occurs next.
Latter-Day of the Dead is downright creepy, and so are the Mormon polygamists in this novel. I can take blood, guts, and gore any day, but combine it with religious zealots, cults, and Mormon polygamists and I’m super freaked out.
This book has lots of fast-paced action. It’s addicting and pleasurable, especially since it sits at a brief 175 pages.
I’m interested in knowing what inspired Kevin Krohn to write this book. Is he a former Mormon? A Mormon in recovery? Did he have a bad experience with Mormons at some point? Well, either way, this book was loads of fun.
Kevin Krohn has also written Severed Ties.
