Dialogues by Stephen Spignesi is genuinely gripping, and easy to read in one sitting. It’s about a woman named Victoria “Tory” Troy, an animal euthanasia technician who murders coworkers in the gas chamber at the animal shelter she works at.
Every chapter in this book consists of “dialogues” between Tory and other characters, including her mom, doctor, attorney, etc. These dialogues provide us with insight into Tory’s lifestyle and personality. She’s very intelligent, and there are clues that hint it’s possible she may not be committing these crimes at all. It’s all very vexing.
There’s not a whole lot of suspense in Dialogues, and it reads more like a tame psychological thriller. Its ending is shocking and unpredictable, which makes for an enjoyable, fascinating ride.
