Killing Floor is the 1st book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. Once you start this series, there’s no going back. These books are bad-ass.

Jack Reacher is a former military detective. He’s incredibly intelligent, and has impressive self-defense skills. He’s a wanderer with no home, no family, and no job, and he likes it that way.

Reacher lands in deep trouble when he visits a desolate town in Georgia and is wrongly accused of murder. After he’s proven innocent early on in the book, he steps in to help a trustworthy local detective solve the mystery behind a bunch of recent murders.

I’ve been seeing Lee Child’s name splashed all over social media in recent years, and so I bought Killing Floor to see what all the fuss was about. Wow. I was not disappointed. I finally understand what all the hype is about. Reacher is simply the best.

I like how the author sprinkles subtle clues throughout the book to help you solve the mystery. Many other mystery novelists like to add twists and extra clues at the last moment, making it impossible to solve the mystery on your own without these extra reveals. But Lee Child’s clues are there the whole time—you just have to work out the puzzle before you get to the end.

Lee Child gives us very explicit details about fighting moves like roundhouse kicks and how to kill bad guys. But his romantic style is entertainingly short, choppy, and awkward.

Here’s an excerpt of the first love scene between Reacher and his love interest in Killing Floor:

It was frantic. It was like the end of the world. We were bathed in sweat. Totally spent.

Classic. There’s just no time for long, drawn-out romantic interludes when you’re trying to save the world.

There are 30 books in the Jack Reacher series. The books that come next are:

Hollywood got its hands on this series. There are a few movies featuring Tom Cruise as Reacher, and an amazing Amazon Prime TV series featuring Alan Ritchson as Reacher.

SKIP the Tom Cruise movies. Just watch the Prime series called Reacher. Ritchson is the perfect Reacher.

What did you think about Killing Floor, did you like it?
