Never After by Rebecca Lickiss

Never After is a fun fantasy romp by Rebecca Lickiss that incorporates many popular pieces of folklore into one unique story.

In Never After, three young princes are frozen—forever asleep in an enchanted castle covered with vines and brambles until someone can lift the spell. Five people arrive at the castle with hopes of disenchanting it: an adventurous princess, an arrogant prince, and three wizards.

The spell on the castle can be broken if the princess kisses the princes, but the evil godmother and witch who cast the spell refuses to let the princess near unless she can pass tests that prove and validate her royal status. So the princess does just that.

I love the classic fantasy approach to Never After. It features a traditional frog prince, a magical troll, and lots of wizard- and witch-like elements.

What I don’t like about the book is the fact it has no chapters, so its readability kind of sucks. BUT, Never After is so fun it honestly doesn’t matter in the end. Also, the novel IS pretty short, so maybe it’s not a big deal after all.

Rebecca Lickiss released a follow-up to Never After in 2012 called Never Say Never After Again. She’s also written these books:
