A Spoonful of Poison is the 19th book in the Agatha Raisin cozy mystery series by M.C. Beaton.

In this one, Agatha Raisin is busy organizing a jam-tasting festival for the local church fundraiser. At the event, some of the taste-testers start acting crazy, and someone is murdered. So Agatha Raisin starts investigating alongside the village detectives to figure out who poisoned the jam, and why.

I appreciate how blunt and forward Agatha Raisin can be with just about anyone. Sometimes, she’s extremely rude and biased.

There’s a new character in this one called Toni. Agatha hires her on as an assistant. She seems to be close to bringing out the nurturing mom in Agatha, though it doesn’t fully happen. Maybe in future books, though.

In A Spoonful of Poison, it’s more fun reading about the characters and their chemistry and relationships with one another, than it is to solve the mystery. At this point in the series, does anyone still care about the mysteries, or are we reading it for the characters? These books are just too much fun.
