Where the Hell is Matt is one of the most fun and entertaining travel books I’ve ever read. I highly recommend it. Don’t pass it up!
Many years ago, Matt Harding was a software designer in L.A. At one point, he realized he didn’t want to waste his life away, sitting in a boring office working on projects he hated. So he quit his job and started traveling the globe.
On a silly whim, he started asking people to record him dancing at each place he visited. It’s his trademark dance now, and featured as fun flip art in the book.
Matt talks about how his traveling and dancing became an international phenomenon. The book is chock-full of his many hilarious traveling stories and anecdotes. He’s doing what he loves best. Now, he’s sponsored by a major company that funds his traveling.
First, I recommend watching this 4.5-minute YouTube video that shows how Matt became so popular. I think doing this made me enjoy the book even more. I watched it again a second time after finishing the book.
I think it’s cool that Matt quit his office job to do this. He followed his dreams. I also like his personality. He’s highly relatable and likeable.
Where the Hell is Matt encompasses everything a travel memoir should. It may serve as a good reference when selecting and weeding out potential vacation destinations. For instance, after reading this book, I definitely don’t want to visit the Demilitarized Zone in Korea. I also never want to visit Lancelin, Australia, because sand dunes kick my ass every time. But Fiji, Poland, and Tonga sure do look fun!
What did you think about this book, did you like it?
