The Legacy of Eden is the first novel by Nelle Davy. It’s about the legacy of a farm and estate in Iowa named Aurelia.
The books opens in present day New York. Meredith Pincetti receives a letter about the estate of Aurelia farm, which was being managed by her cousin, Cal Hathaway, Jr. before he died.

Meredith contacts her sisters regarding the estate, and leaves New York for Iowa to visit the farm and collect some of her family’s belongings before they’re sold. Meredith seems really stressed and upset about having to return to Aurelia.
The Legacy of Eden spans between past and present. We’re taken back to farm life in the 1940s, when Meredith’s grandmother Lavinia marries into the Hathaway family. As the years pass, Lavinia strives to maintain her family’s honorable reputation in their Iowa town, even if it means lying and manipulating others. She even bans a few family members from Aurelia forever. At the end, we finally learn why Meredith has terrible memories about Aurelia and her family.
This book reads like historical fiction about a family farm in Iowa, and isn’t too spectacular or memorable, to be honest. Common problems like financial difficulties and marital affairs arise, but none of these events are exciting, shocking, or titillating enough to make it interesting.
The author writes beautifully. She uses excellent prose and word choice. Unfortunately, this novel lacks depth and originality.
The Legacy of Eden reminded me a bit of V.C. Andrews, like the Heaven Casteel series and the Ruby Landry series.
What did you think about this book, did you like it?
