Surveys can be so much fun, especially when they’re about books! You’re welcome to feature the same survey questions on your website, just drop a link to it in the comments.
Author you’ve read the most books from:
At this stage in my life, probably M.C. Beaton. I love her Hamish Macbeth series and Agatha Raisin cozy mystery series.
Bookmark of choice:
I have a box of bookmarks I’ve been collecting my entire life. I just pick one at random, no favorites.
Currently reading:
Drink of choice while reading:
Water, or a double espresso. I buy these Lavazza espresso beans because they’re tasty and relatively inexpensive.
E-reader or physical book?
I’ve never liked e-readers or tablets. Physical books, all day long.
Fictional character you would have dated in high school:
Well, in high school, I always had a crush on Michael from The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, so probably him. Even though he was in his 40s, and I was a teenager.
Grossest thing you’ve ever found in a book:
Aside from boogers, the grossest things I see all the time are the orange residue from Cheetos and chocolate smudges.
Hidden gem author:
It’s a tie between Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and Connie Willis. Maybe they’re not really hidden gems, but nobody else knows about these authors when I mention them.
Important moment in your reading life:
When I discovered BookCrossing in 2005 after desperately searching for a local book club. I love BookCrossing!
Just finished reading:
The Mephisto Waltz by Fred Mustard Stewart.
Kinds of books you won’t read:
Celebrity biographies, even though I’ve recently read a few. Those are garbage.
Longest book you’ve ever read:
It’s either The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett or The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. But I soon hope to add Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts to this list.
Major book hangover because of:
The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It took me awhile to recover from these books.
Number of bookcases you own:
A silly question, I don’t know why anyone cares. I own 3 right now, but books are stacked everywhere around them.
One book you have read multiple times:
There are lots, but for many years, I read the Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith every October.
Preferred reading weather:
Fall and winter, duh!
Quote that inspires you from a book you’ve read:
Pretty much all of the quotes and content in Dreams in the Womb by Brandon Gene Petit. Here’s my review.
Reading regret:
Several years ago I reviewed books for a vanity-indie publishing company. I felt bad for all the people who got tricked into paying that company to publish and promote their books. Because honestly, all the books were terrible.
Series you started and want to finish:
I have two books left in The Lost Guild fantasy series by Mindy L. Klasky. I love this series, it’s so good! Here are my reviews of the first few books:
Three of your all-time favorite books:
The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, Phantom by Susan Kay, and Dracula by Bram Stoker.
Unapologetic fangirl for:
Graham Masterton. He is my favorite horror novelist of all-time. Feast and Master of Lies are a few of my favs.
Very excited for this upcoming release:
Sweet Nothings by Janis Thomas. I loved the author’s sense of humor in Something New.
Worst bookish habit:
Avoiding bookish conversations with people who want to talk about Stephen King, Tom Clancy, or Clive Cussler. That’s kind of mean and snobby, huh.
X marks the spot. Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 7th book:
The Scary Stories Treasury by Alvin Schwartz.
Your latest book purchase:
P.S. Your Cat is Dead by James Kirkwood.
ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up too late):
Echo Burning by Lee Child.
I’d like to read your A to Z bookish survey if you did one too, so please drop a link to it here!
