Glasswrights Test

The Glasswrights’ Test is the 4th novel in the Lost Guild series by Mindy L. Klasky.

In this one, Rani Trader tries rebuilding her beloved guild from the ground up after it was disbanded years earlier. But before she can become Master Glasswright and rebuild her new guild in Morenia, Rani must go to another kingdom to have her skills tested by former guild members—all of whom still look coldly on Rani for betraying the guild years ago.

Also, a secret society called The Fellowship of Jair is challenging Rani to kill the current queen of Morenia with hopes of restoring the kingdom’s power. However, Rani suspects the Fellowship may not have the kingdom’s best interests at heart.

Rani’s story gets darker and darker as the series progresses, and Klasky doesn’t hold back with character deaths in this one. In fact, the deaths are truly shocking and jarring, to say the least. I’m also loving the romantic tension mounting between King Hal and Rani, and have no idea whether Klasky will finally bring them together in The Glasswrights’ Master, which is the 5th and final book in the series.

Politics are not my thing, but the author creates the most vivid fantasy world with its own castes, conflicts, and secret societies. After working so hard to become a master at her trade since book #1, Rani still hasn’t achieved her dream and rebuilt her guild. Hopefully Rani can finally launch her guild and end up with the man who knows and loves her best.

The Lost Guild series is by far the best fantasy series I’ve read in recent years.
