Barbara Bretton is a wonderful contemporary romance author, especially if you’re on the fence about this genre. Her books are always guaranteed to please. Chances Are was sitting on my shelf for years before I read it, and it was so good, I wish I had read it sooner.
Chances Are centers on a group of women in a small Jersey shore town called Paradise Point. The women are Maddy, who’s about to get married; Rose, her entrepreneur mother; Claire, a widow and mother of five; and Kelly, Maddy’s soon-to-be teenage stepdaughter.
As the entire town focuses on Maddy and her wedding, Claire stands on the sidelines, jealous of Maddy’s good fortune. Meanwhile, Kelly, who’s always been very responsible, suspects she may be pregnant.
One thing I really loved about Chances Are is the way these women hold themselves together in times of turmoil. I also like how it wasn’t stereotypical.
I won’t reveal much more, because then you’ll know everything and there’s no point in reading it! All I can say is, put this author on your wish list, or stock up on her romance novels. You never know when you’ll need a romantic pick-me-up, and Barbara Bretton is your gal.
