The Unknown Terrorist is the 4th novel by Richard Flanagan.
Gina Davies is a young stripper and pole dancer who goes by the name, “Doll.” One night, Gina goes to bed with a handsome stranger, then wakes up the next day with no recollection of the previous night. The next morning, she sees herself on TV being wanted as the most wanted criminal and prime suspect behind a terrorist attack.
This book’s synopsis, cover blurbs, and endorsements from other authors nudged me toward buying it. Unfortunately, I didn’t share the same passion and excitement about it.
The Unknown Terrorist is far too choppy and jumps all over the place. It also feels impersonal, and it’s difficult to connect with the characters—including Gina. I didn’t get too far into this book, because those factors were stopping me.
Also, the author of this book is Australian. This book features lots of Australian lingo, which I don’t understand because I’m American. It’s difficult to know what the characters are talking about in certain parts.
I originally bought The Unknown Terrorist because someone somewhere recommended it. I wish I can remember who so I can ignore all their recommendations going forward.
