Nancy Pearl is a career librarian, and she’s written numerous book reviews for local and national publications. Some of her top recommendations are in Book Lust—which features brief reviews of books in all genres “for every mood, moment, and reason.” That’s her catchphrase.
As you thumb through Book Lust, you’ll come across an eclectic collection of book reviews, and the most intriguing book categories and descriptions. If you had never read Book Lust, you probably wouldn’t notice or think about these books, or pursue them.
I like how Nancy Pearl writes plot summaries and reviews that are just short enough to pique your interest. She doesn’t give away too much like some book synopses and movie previews.
You know what—I’ve hunted down about a hundred books featured in these Book Lust collections. Yet, every time I thumb through them, I find something else that piques my interest. It’s like a never-ending adventure.
Some of the fun categories featured in Book Lust are:
- Black Humor
- Books about Books
- Elvis on my Mind
- New Orleans
- Techno-Thrillers
Honestly, it’s really hard to single out just a few categories because they’re all fun and amazing. Nancy Peal also showcases specific authors including Ian McEwan and Connie Willis, to name a few. It’s impossible to pick up Book Lust and not walk away with a big long wish list.
I’m happy to say I’ve discovered some new favorites thanks to Book Lust, such as Miss Lizzie by Walter Satterthwait. But there are some I didn’t like at all, such as The Lecturer’s Tale by James Hynes.
All the Book Lust volumes are worth checking out! I urge you to look for it next time you’re at the bookstore.
Other Book Lust volumes by Nancy Pearl include:
- More Book Lust (2005)
- Book Lust To Go (2010)
