The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance: A Memoir by Elna Baker

The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance is a funny memoir from Elna Baker. Its title, which is basically an oxymoron—tells of Baker’s experiences as a single Mormon woman coming of age in New York City. That’s pretty much the entire premise of this book.

“NY Mormon Halloween Dance” is truly hilarious. It’s genuine, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny. It reveals a lot about the Mormon religion and lifestyle, in case you’re curious about it. It’s certainly one of a kind. I don’t know any other Mormon women or writers who approach their beliefs with the same lighthearted candor.

Highlights of this book include the author’s story about her experiences working as an actress at FAO Schwartz, her story about Mormons trying to “scare” her by sitting on a bed, and of course, her ability to juggle tangerines. All in all, this book is great and it’ll give you a good laugh.

It doesn’t look like Elna Baker has written anything else. That makes me so sad!
