Undead and Undermined is the 10th book in the Undead Queen Betsy series by MaryJanice Davidson. I used to think these books were cool and fun in my early 20s, but I can’t do them anymore.
In Undead and Undermined, Betsy Taylor, Queen of Vampires, wakes up in a morgue in Chicago after time-traveling years into the future. Upon returning home to her mansion in St. Paul, Minnesota, Betsy learns that her little time-travel excursion has changed lots of things in the present—including the living status of some of her friends.

Betsy tries to figure out how she can use these changes to her advantage so her friends do not become the demented versions of themselves she saw in the future.
Undead and Undermined has a confusing start. After all, Betsy is lying on a slab in the morgue despite being a vampire. After several chapters of Betsy’s rambling, it’s still unclear why she was in a Chicago morgue in the first place.
It’s like every event that’s occurred in the series since book #1 was reset and altered so the author can take the series in a totally new direction. Some major characters who died in earlier books came back to life in this one, and some characters even have completely different personalities.
Also, it seems like Betsy and her friends are getting more idiotic and immature as the series progresses. These books are too nerdy and not witty enough. Many of Betsy’s ramblings are annoying and make zero sense.
You might like Undead and Undermined if you like the previous nine books in this series. If you’re on the fence, don’t even bother.
The next few books in this series are:
- Undead and Unstable (2012)
- Undead and Underwater (2013)
- Undead and Unsure (2013)
