Nursing Home Ninjas is a cozy mystery novel by Al Stevens.
87-year-old Marvin Bradley lives in a nursing home, but still has his wits about him. In fact, Marvin is so perceptive he’s noticed many other nursing home residents are sporting bruises and other noticeable injuries. Unfortunately, none of the nursing home staff takes Marvin seriously about residents being abused, so he begins to investigate.

After assembling a team of “nursing home ninjas” that include Marvin’s best friends Mike Charles (who relies on a walker to get around) and Carrie Fenway (who’s in a wheelchair), he learns somebody wants kill all the nursing home residents, one by one. The nursing home ninjas then work together to expose and defeat the bad guy responsible for wreaking havoc in their community.
Nursing Home Ninjas is vibrant, humorous, and highly entertaining, and I’m not just saying that. The witty jokes made by all the elderly characters in this book are super funny. I literally laughed out loud several times while reading this novel and shared some corny jokes with family.
There’s a scene in Nursing Home Ninjas that reminds me of the Home Alone movies, when Macaulay Culkin sets up all the booby traps to mess with the burglars. It’s pretty hilarious.
My least favorite part of Nursing Home Ninjas was the super long court scene that takes up the last several chapters of the book.
Other books by Al Stevens include:
- The Resurrection of Beaver Gulch (2017)
- Murder at the Old Folks Home (2019)
- Tommy and Me (2020)
