Death of a Dustman is the 16th book in the Hamish Macbeth mystery series by M.C. Beaton. This is one of my favorite all-time mystery series.
In Death of a Dustman (a dustman is a garbage man or trash collector in the UK), an abusive jerk husband and dustman by the name of Fergus Macleod is found dead in a trash bin. After investigating, Hamish realizes Fergus had been picking through garbage for evidence he could use to blackmail people in Lochdubh.
As always, Hamish has his work cut out for him because he has to investigate and rule out everyone in Lochdubh.
Death of a Dustman comes with its fair share of hilarious and very entertaining side-plots, just like all the other books in this series. For instance, Hamish dates an overweight, elderly schoolteacher in an effort to make the beautiful Priscilla Halburton-Smythe jealous.
I’ve read dozens of mysteries by M.C. Beaton, and nearly all are winners.
The next few books that come after Death of a Dustman are:
- Death of a Celebrity (2002)
- Death of a Village (2003)
- Death of a Poison Pen (2004)
There are 38 books in the Hamish Macbeth series, wow!
What do you think about this series?
