Covet is the 1st book in the Fallen Angels series by J.R. Ward.
Its front cover makes Covet look like a cheesy, sappy bodice-ripper romance. But it’s far classier than the cover makes it out to be, so maybe just this once, don’t judge a book by its cover!
I found Covet in the paranormal romance section of the bookstore, but after reading it, I’m not sure it should belong to any one specific genre. The book is a mixture of paranormal romance, fantasy, mystery, action-adventure, erotica, and well, it just doesn’t seem like it should be classified the way it is.
The sex scenes are few and far between in Covet. But when they happen, they’re extremely steamy and erotic!
The prologue of Covet sets the premise for the entire Fallen Angels series. It explains how Demons and Angels are in an ongoing fight, and how Earth and its people are the prize.
Next, we meet Jim Heron—a tall, burly bad-boy biker who works in construction and has a secretive military history. While at a sex club, Jim hooks up with a sexy siren named Devina who seduces him in the club’s parking lot before disappearing into the night.
Then, we meet Marie-Therese Boudreau—a classy and high-class prostitute who works at the sex club. She’s trying to keep a low profile so her abusive ex-husband cannot locate her and her young son.
Finally, we meet Vin diPietro—a self-made billionaire (and Devina’s boyfriend) who can’t help but feel that something is still missing from his life given his exorbitant amount of money and assets.
Near the beginning of Covet, we learn Jim is the main focal point of the Fallen Angels series and has been sent on a mission from the Angels to make things right on Earth one mission at a time. His current mission is to befriend Vin diPietro, help him rescue Marie-Therese Boudreau, and defeat one of the Devil’s minions.
Covet is so well-written you’ll find yourself eager to get back to it. It’s clever and creative, and I like the friendship between Jim and Vin.
