This latest book by John C. Maxwell is mainly about how to improve the way you talk and do presentations to establish meaningful connections with people. He says some people are great at their careers, but lack the skills needed to truly connect, which can make or break your progress.
There’s one thing I didn’t like about Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, which is the tirade by Charlie Wetzel in Chapter 5, in which Wetzel shares his personal perspective on John C. Maxwell’s advice. It’s just redundant and boring and sounds a bit like idolatry to me.
Overall, this book could benefit those who could use some benefit from tips on how to improve their interpersonal communication skills.
I’ve been to a few conferences/all-hands hosted by John C. Maxwell, and to be honest, if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard ’em all. I even fell asleep at one, and that’s so terrible, I know. That’s how I feel about all his books, too.
They used to hand out Maxwell books like hotcakes back when I worked at MCI in the late 90s/early 2000s—particularly The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Everyone displayed them on their desks, haha!
