Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go is an autobiography by Lucille O’Neal—the mom of NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal.
This book is incredibly inspiring—especially for struggling moms out there. Lucille proves to everyone it IS possible to raise an NBA superstar even when things in your life aren’t perfect.
Lucille discusses the many hardships she endured while raising Shaq—from becoming a teen mom, to recovering from alcoholism, to managing her son’s rising fame. She attributes her ability to get through it all to God and her faith, and of course, motivation. I also like how she goes into detail regarding how her mental health status changed for the better over the years.
Overall, Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go feels far too short. Lucille talks about the events that led to her overall healing and recovery over the years, but not too much about her thoughts and feelings during those times. I’d like to know exactly WHAT drove and motivated her. She quotes scripture throughout the book, so maybe that’s her way of saying she relied on her faith to get through. If so, that’s truly beautiful and amazing.
