Death of a Rug Lord is the 14th book in the Den of Antiquity series by Tamar Myers.
In this one, Abby is tasked with figuring out who’s replacing antique rugs in people’s homes with knock-offs, while the authentic rugs are being sold behind the owner’s backs.
Sadly, Death of a Rug Lord is the worst book in this series, and I won’t even be sticking it out for the last two.
This book is all over the place. There are too many distractions to follow the story effectively, and the dialogue between characters are a poor attempt at comic relief. None of it’s funny, at all.
I officially lost interest in Death of a Rug Lord when Abby and one of the Rob-Bobs walk into an office at a house party and see a 23-year-old making out with a drag queen. What?!
This book is terrible. Don’t get me wrong, I love funny and silly books, but the randomness in this one is so far off the charts that it isn’t enjoyable. It’s like reading the script of a badly written middle-school play.
This book is lacking scenes with C.J. and Mozella Wiggins. They’re both featured in this book, but the Rob-Bob’s just aren’t fun, charismatic, or electric enough to carry this book as the central characters. Oh well.
There are only 2 books remaining in the Den of Antiquity series:
- #15 – Poison Ivory (2009)
- #16 – The Glass Is Always Greener (2011)
Tamar Myers also writes the Pennsylvania Dutch series, which just keeps on going. There are 25 books in that series now, which begins with:
- #1 – Too Many Crooks Spoil the Broth (1993)
- #2 – Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Crime (1995)
Do you read anything by Tamar Myers? If so, what are your favorites?
