Heart of Evil is the 2nd book in the Krewe of Hunters series by Heather Graham. It’s about a team of forensic paranormal investigators who travel around solving paranormal crimes. This one takes place in the Louisiana bayou.
In Heart of Evil, the Krewe of Hunters head to the historic Donegal plantation to investigate a series of hauntings and murders. The plantation, which is ran and overseen by Ashley Donegal, hosts yearly Civil War re-enactments, and is one of the region’s biggest tourist hot spots.

One day, a body turns up dead on the plantation grounds. Ashley’s grandfather calls in the special paranormal task force. Coincidentally, it turns out that Ashley has a romantic history with one of the investigators, Jake Mallory. Fun, fun. What are the odds?
Heart of Evil is predictable and far-fetched. But you know what, it makes for a good distraction. It’s an easy read. There were short chapters sprinkled in here and there told from the killer’s point of view, which made it feel like one of those R.L Stine or Christopher Pike books for teenagers.
There are about 38 books or so in the Krewe of Hunters series now. Do you think it’s still Heather Graham, or a ghostwriter? Probably a ghostwriter.
The books that come after Heart of Evil are:
- Sacred Evil (2011)
- The Evil Inside (2011)
- The Unseen (2012)
