Killer in Crinolines is the 2nd book in the funny and quirky Consignment Shop cozy mystery series by Duffy Brown.
It’s August in Savannah, Georgia, where amateur sleuth and consignment shop owner Reagan Summerside is preparing her store, “The Prissy Fox,” for the upcoming fall season.
When Reagan visits a wedding to drop off a bow tie, she stumbles upon the groom’s dead body lying face down in his wedding cake. The number one suspect is Chantilly Parker, Reagan’s close friend and the town’s UPS delivery driver.
To help Chantilly avoid jail, Reagan and her aunt Kiki join forces to nab the killer (but not without eating their fair share of baked goods along the way and teaching provocative belly dancing classes).
Also close on Reagan’s tail is Walker Boone, a hunky, irresistible, and ruthless lawyer. Boone comes to Reagan’s rescue several times in Killer in Crinolines to save her from zany and dangerous predicaments.
Killer in Crinolines flows nicely from beginning to end. It’s way funnier than its predecessor, and its compelling mystery and plot will have you staying up late into the night.
Reagan is likeable and relatable because she’s not perfect. I also love all the vibrant characters and inside jokes in this series. I enjoy reading about Reagan’s eyesore of a yellow purse (dubbed “Old Yeller”) in every book, and all of Kiki’s silly quotes from Cher. Also, the tension mounting between Boone and Reagan has me in a tizzy.
There are 6 books in the Consignment Shop series by Duffy Brown. I’ve also read and reviewed these books in the series:
- Iced Chiffon (2012)
- Pearls and Poison (2014)
- Demise in Denim (2015)
Have you read this series? What do you think?
