Demise in Denim is the 5th book in the Consignment Shop mystery series by Duffy Brown. This cozy mystery series takes place in Savannah, Georgia and features Reagan Summerside, consignment shop owner, as amateur sleuth.

Demise in Denim opens with the police chasing down Reagan as she drives lawyer Walker Boone’s red 1957 Chevy convertible, disguised as Boone himself. We come to find out that the hunky, sexy, and street-smart lawyer is the prime suspect in the murder of his father, Conway Adkins, who was recently found dead in his bathtub.
While Boone lays low, it’s up to Reagan to put her sleuthing skills to the test to figure out who really killed Conway and why. That way, Boone’s name can be cleared and the two can live happily ever.
With help from Aunt Kiki, her best friend Chantilly, and Bruce Willis the dog, Reagan learns as much as she can about the people connected to Conway before he died. She finds out Conway was being blackmailed by people who wanted his job and his inn. She also learns that Conway’s other son Tucker, who had grown up as a privileged rich kid (while poor Boone grew up on the streets), may also be a suspect.
If you thought the other Consignment Shop books were funny, you’ll love this one because it’s even funnier. There are lots of fun pop-culture references, and it’s sassy, too. Reagan’s many mishaps are ridiculous, but they’re not too over the top. Overall, it’s a fun page-turner.
I’m growing a bit concerned about Bruce Willis’ diet. All those hot dogs, doughnuts, cookies, and mac and cheese are going to give him bad teeth and diabetes!
There are 6 books in the Consignment Shop series and Duffy Brown has another series out called the Cycle Path Mystery series. I recommend trying them if you enjoy cozy mysteries.
