Aunt Dimity Slays the Dragon is the 15th book in the Aunt Dimity cozy mystery series by Nancy Atherton.

The Renaissance Fair has come to the village of Finch, and for some wild reason, is being set up in Lori Shepherd’s backyard. It’s not too long before Lori realizes some is trying to murder the fair’s very own “King Wilfred,” for setting his sights on a young, beautiful, singing maiden.

As usual, Lori consults with Aunt Dimity from the supernatural world beyond, using her magic journal to determine how she will save the village of Finch.

I love how Atherton has veered away from murders and dead bodies to present even “cozier” mysteries sans the loss and violence. To me, this is the true epitome of a cozy mystery.

I particularly enjoyed Aunt Dimity Slays the Dragon because for once, Lori flirts with her actual husband Bill and not a new stranger in town, which is usually always the case. I feel sorry for Bill every time Lori flirts with a new character in these books.

The author is either from Colorado Springs or lives there. I wonder if the Colorado Renaissance Festival in Larkspur inspired this one. Larkspur is about a 40-minute drive from both Colorado Springs and Denver, and is home to an incredibly large and dedicated Renaissance village, for its annual Renaissance Fair. This is honestly such a brilliant and fun idea for an Aunt Dimity mystery.

There are 25 books in the Aunt Dimity mystery series. The books that come next are:
